Atlantic Rim

The Pacific Rim captures attention these days, but the Atlantic Rim deserves consideration too.

The July 3, 2008 issue of London Review of Books discusses two recent books focused on the Atlantic Rim.

The Discovery of Mankind: Atlantic Encounters in the Age of Columbus, by David Abulafia. Review from eHistory

Hans Staden’s True History: An Account of Cannibal Captivity in Brazil, edited and translated by Neil Whitehead and Michael Harbsmeier

My interest in the Atlantic Rim took me to Kenneth White’s book On the Atlantic Edge. White’s ideas about geopoetics are provocative. He’s a Scot who lives in France and writes in English and French.  One of the most forward thinking writer’s I’ve encountered in a while.
